Todd Allen joined the Freeport Fire Department on October 31, 2017 as Fire Chief.

Prior to joining the Freeport Fire Department, Chief Allen spent 24 years with the Moline Fire Department, retiring as a Battalion Chief. During his tenure with Moline, Chief Allen managed various areas of the department from shift operations, EMS division, special operations division and suppression operations. Chief Allen served as a firefighter/paramedic in 1992 with the Rock Island Fire Department, and was then hired as a firefighter/paramedic with Moline Fire Department, where he rose through the ranks serving as a lieutenant, captain and then battalion chief. Chief Allen has worked as a flight medic, was tactical medic commander, served as MABAS 43 technical rescue team leader and teaches curriculum for alternative fuels responses for first responders.

Chief Allen recently completed his Master’s Degree in Organizational Leadership from Waldorf University, holds a Bachelor’s Degree in Fire Service Administration from Western Illinois University and an Associate’s Degree as a Fire Service Officer from Black Hawk College. In 2010 he graduated from the National Fire Academy’s Executive Fire Officer Program in Emmitsburg, Maryland. Chief Allen carries numerous fire service and incident management certifications.

MISSION STATEMENT:

To provide the Citizens of Freeport with a skilled and professional Fire Department; to save lives and protect property; to lessen the impact of fire, medical emergencies, and catastrophic events. Our mission is achieved through fire prevention, fire suppression, emergency medical service, hazardous materials response, technical rescue response, public education, and fire investigation.

The Freeport Fire Department currently employs 45 highly trained professionals located in three strategically located fire stations throughout the City of Freeport.
Our personnel are trained and certified as FFII and III, EMT and Paramedics, and Hazardous Materials and Technical Rescue Technicians.

Emergency apparatus includes two pumpers, one aerial, two ambulances, and three passenger vehicles. The Department currently maintains an ISO Public Protection Classification of 3.

Did you know?

Freeport Firefighters last year responded to 1,181 fire alarms and 3,722 emergency medical calls. This was a 7.97% increase in call volume from 2012. Fire alarms consist of fires in buildings, fires in vehicles, open burning, false alarms, auto extrication, and medical assists. Emergency medical calls vary but may include cardiac emergencies, asthma, diabetic emergencies and traumatic injuries.
