LANDSCAPE WASTE DISPOSAL PROGRAM - 2011

Freeport Transfer Station (phone 815-233-0742) is open the following hours:

• Monday to Friday 7:30 am to 2:00 pm
• First Saturday in Month 8:00 am to 11:00 am

Freeport uses two waste haulers:

• Gill's Freeport Disposal - phone 815-233-5644 (open 8am to 4:30 pm)
• Moring Disposal - phone 815-233-9216 (open 7am to 4:30 pm)

Please contact the hauler to determine which one serves your area.

Waste Disposal

All trash and recyclables must be at the curb by 5:00 a.m. on your pick-up day

• Each dwelling unit is allowed two (2) 30-gallon bags or barrels of garbage each week along with unlimited recycling. No single item, bag or barrel may exceed 30 pounds.
• You are allowed all of the recyclables that are acceptable without quantity or weight limit - see Recyclable Preparation Requirements below.
• All garbage must be in bags, boxes or barrels. Loose, uncontained garbage will not be picked up.
• Residents requiring special service for pick-up of bulky furniture or appliances should contact your waste hauler and make special arrangements.
• Customers who require additional bags may puchase garbage stickers for 50 cents. These stickers can be obtained from various locations (see below).
• If you do not place stickers on any extra bags of garbage, the hauler will not take these bags. You must then remove these bags from the curbside or take the bag(s) to the Transfer Station.
• If you do not put out a bag, you forfeit that week's bag of garbage.

Recyclable Item Preparation Requirements

You may put out all of the recyclables which are accepted by your hauler (see list below), placed at curb the evening before your pickup day. All materials may be co-mingled in your recycling bin. All residences must have a recycling bin at the curb to help the driver identify your stop for recycling collection. Additional bins are available at Freeport Recycling Center for $12.00.

Metal Products/ Tin and Aluminum Cans/ Formed Containers: i.e. pie tins and foil products. Rinse completely and place lids inside cans. Labels do not have to be removed.

Glass Jars and Bottles only: Rinse and remove lids. Labels do not need to be removed.

Plastic Jugs and Bottles: Containers with the numbers 1 through 7 on the bottom. Rinse and remove lids. Labels do not need to be removed. Containers free of any liquids.

Newsprint: Bundle, bag or place in bottom of your bin.

Junk Mail: Includes envelopes, flyers, brochures, bill stubs, and advertisements in bills, old papers, all white and colored papers.

Brown Kraft Paper Bags: Grocery, shopping, lunch bags, etc.

Cardboard: Food boxes such as cereal, baking goods, macaroni and pasta boxes, clothing boxes, shoe boxes, toy and game boxes and beverage cases

Plastic grocery bags are unacceptable with curbside recycling, therefore, it is preferred that you use paper bags for any separation or extra items.
