Freeport Police Department Officer Testing

Anyone interested in obtaining an application for police employment must attend one of the following MANDATORY Orientations (Must present photo ID)

  • November 16, 2011 at 6:00 pm
  • November 19, 2011 at 9:00 am

Recruiting Process for Police Officers:
All testing is conducted in accordance with the Rules and Regulations of the Board of Fire and Police Commissioners, City of Freeport Ordinances, and all applicable State and Federal Statutes.


In order to be considered for an officer position with the Freeport Police Department, candidates must possess:

  • High School Diploma
  • Valid Driver's License
  • No Criminal Record (felonies and certain misdemeanors are unacceptable)

Candidates will be expected to pass:

  • Physical Fitness Assessment
  • Written Examination (2 hours) and Personality Evaluation Profile
  • Background Investigation
  • Oral Interview in front of Board of Fire and Police Commission

Candidates who successfully pass these tests will be placed on a hiring list for up to two years. If offered employment, the candidate must then successfully pass polygraph and psychological examinations.  Successful candidates must then pass a complete physical and drug screen to begin on the payroll and attend the academy. At the academy, recruits will be required to:

  • Pass a State Required Power Test (a physical test)
  • Complete Academy
  • Pass a State Certified Test

Following academy, recruits will complete a four month field training program with the Freeport Police Department. If the recruit successfully completes the field training program, he/she will become a sworn officer on the department and assigned to a shift. The process from academy to sworn officer takes approximately eight months.
