Fire Chief – Kevin Countryman

Kevin Countryman joined the Freeport Fire Department in August of 1987. He was appointed Fire Chief in June of 2005 and reappointed in 2009 by Mayor George W. Gaulrapp.

Prior to his appointment as Fire Chief, Kevin served on the Fire Dept. as a Firefighter, Paramedic, Lieutenant, and Captain/Shift Commander. He has also trained in specialty fields such as Hazardous Materials and Vertical Rescue.

Kevin is a graduate of Belvidere High School and attended Rock Valley College and Highland Community College. He is a graduate of the University of Illinois Fire Service Institute Fire Officer program. Kevin is also a graduate of St. Anthony Hospital’s Paramedic program.

Kevin has served the fire service in other capacities as a Fire Service Instructor, President of the Foreign Fire Insurance Board, President/Trustee of the Freeport Firefighters Pension Fund, and Vice President of Freeport Firefighters Local 441.
