Public Works Director – Craig A. LeBaron
Associations/Memberships Craig LeBaron has been a city employee since the fall of 1984. He was appointed as Assistant City Engineer by Mayor Mark McLeRoy. Craig served under City Engineer John Aaby until his retirement in 1994. Mr. LeBaron was then appointed as Public Works Director under then Mayor Dick Weis. Being appointed by Mayor Gitz and now Mayor Gaulrapp, Craig has the distinction of serving under four Mayors. Craig is a Freeport native graduating from Freeport High School, Morrison Institute of Technology, Highland Community College and Southern Illinois University. Mr. LeBaron has a BS degree in Civil Engineering Technology and is also a Professional Land Surveyor, registered with the State of Illinois. The Director of Public Works works closely with all departments in the City. His main responsibilities focus on street construction activities, street lighting and traffic signals. Craig also serves as the Mayor's liaison to the Airport Commission. As Director of Public Works, he is also concerned with all the activities
of the Street Department including, Street Maintenance, Forestry, Cemetery,
Animal Control and the Mechanical Division for Street and Police Equipment.
